Periodontal Therapy
Renew your Oral Health
Periodontal disease or gum disease is inflammation of the gum tissues and bone that hold your teeth in place. In more severe cases, it can spread from the gums to the bone that supports the teeth, and may even cause tooth loss. With appropriate and timely periodontal therapy here at Foothills Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, you can manage and even reverse periodontitis.
What Causes Gum Disease?
Bacterial buildup is the main cause of gum disease / periodontal disease. It accumulates in between your teeth and turns into tartar / calculus. This is a bacterial breeding ground, and can destroy and gum tissue and bone surrounding your teeth.
Gingivitis vs. Periodontal Disease
Gingivitis is gum inflammation due to poor oral hygiene and lack of regular dental care. Periodontal disease is gum disease that has progressed into bone loss around your teeth.
Signs of Gum Disease
- Painful, swollen gums
- Red inflamed gums that bleed when flossing
- Bad breath
- Receding gums
- Loose teeth
Periodontal Disease Linked to Overall Health
The bad bacteria that causes bone loss and inflamed gums can infiltrate your blood stream and contribute to Strokes, Arthritis, Heart Disease, Diabetes, and Respiratory Disease
Periodontal Therapy
At our office, we treat periodontal disease to restore the health of your teeth and gums. We treat your condition by thoroughly deep cleaning the tartar off your tooth surfaces above and below the gums. This process sometimes requires local numbing to ensure you are comfortable. If that is the case, Dr. Daniel will numb your teeth and surrounding gums on the day of treatment.
